The Stories Behind the Music: Chris Tomlin

This Sunday, June 26, our services will feature songs by Chris Tomlin.  One of Chris’ songs that has recently touched and strengthened people’s hearts around the world is, "Our God," which he wrote in collaboration with songwriters such as Matt Redman, Jesse Reeves, Jonas Myrin, and others.  The inspiration for the song came as they gathered to prepare their hearts for worship before a Passion worship conference they were leading in Florida.

The lyrics of "Our God" offer a strong reminder there is no one like our God: He is greater than all others and is deserving of our worship.  The mention of Jesus’ miracles: turning water into wine and opening the eyes of the blind, call to our attention that God uses His power to sustain and heal us and the musical bridge offers the assurance that this God of power is for us, inspiring courage to stand in the face of adversity:

"And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?
And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?
What can stand against?"

Our prayer is that through this song and others like it, you may find encouragement that there is hope, there is healing, there is strength in our God.

Throughout the years, Chris has written many memorable and faith inspiring songs - many of which you will be familiar with.  You can read more about his journey at wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Tomlin.

Please join us in praying for the people affected by this disaster and for their safety and recovery efforts.

We have learned that MPPC's Members in Mission who were in Sendai, Japan, are safe.  We are in touch with our mission and ministry contacts in Japan and we are looking into how we can help.

To contribute to this effort, you can send a check to MPPC with "Japan" on the memo line.  Watch mppc.org/japan for updates.
