Planning for Compassion Weekend - April 25-26, 2010

Compassion Weekend: Project Leaders and Team Leaders Needed
Planning for Compassion Weekend (April 24-25, 2010) is underway and the momentum is building! We are excited to announce four projects that will take place in the South Bay community! A few of these projects need project leaders and/or sub-team leaders to make them happen.

AIDS Caregiver Kit Build
This project will provide a family friendly service opportunity to assemble 1,000 AIDS Caregiver Kits.
Need: Leaders are needed for the following sub-teams: inventory, set up, registration, table managers, card table, quality control, packaging and shipping, refreshments, clean up, parking lot, and music and video. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Barbara Recine, barb@inregister.us.

Mariano Castro Elementary Día del Niño/Día del Libro Festival
This public elementary school serves hundreds of Mountain View’s lowest income families. The campus also serves as a community center for the low-income, largely Hispanic community that surrounds it. This family-friendly project will help facilitate festival booths, activities, and games focused on literacy, books, and the joy of reading. Activities will include lively storytelling, songs, games, and other educational activities in a carnival atmosphere.
Need: Project lead to coordinate planning. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Mountain View Whisman Castro Preschool
This preschool serves 68 children ages 3 to 5 years of age from low-income families. Volunteers would rebuild the Preschool garden into a combined gardening and outdoor play area that will better serves the developmental needs of the pre-school students.
Need: Project lead to coordinate planning and work with the construction lead. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Jeremiah’s Promise
This ministry serves young women who have aged out of the foster care system. Jeremiah’s Promise (JP) provides housing and counseling as well as academic, financial, and spiritual guidance. As a result, the young women have a family environment, stability, and support to persevere through a difficult transition in their lives and are able to connect with the local, Christian community. The Compassion Weekend team will create a welcoming atmosphere of beauty through interior projects and gardening projects.
Need: Please join us in praying for the planning of this project. For more information, please contact Tom Baenziger, tombdot@aol.com.

Note: General sign-ups to participate in any of the church wide Compassion Weekend projects will take place at the end of March/early April at mppc.org.

Opportunities to Serve at Castro Elementary

We are looking for individuals or small groups interested in supporting a Castro Elementary classroom through prayer and “TLC” during this school year. Six classrooms have been adopted by ODCMV members and other congregations this year, and two more remain. Although the greatest need is for people who can go into the classroom occasionally to interact with students, there are needs to be filled outside the classroom as well. Please contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net, 650.960.8227 for more information.

Ripple Effect Small Group Sign-Ups

Feburary 14, our church begins The Ripple Effect - an unprecedented 6-week sermon series which includes, "start> Becoming a Good Samaritan" curriculum for small groups. This DVD study is created to help us live out Jesus' love in world-changing ways, right now, right where we live.

We'd love for EVERYone to be part of a smaller community for this 6-week series! Existing small groups are welcoming new folks to fill their empty chairs, and many new small groups are forming specifically for the Ripple Effect.

You can join a group in two ways:
  1. Sign up at www.mppc.org/ripple-effect. This is a two-step process: first look for a group that meets your needs. When you find it, note the Group ID# and sign up for the group, providing your contact information and indicating the Group ID#.
  2. From now until February 14, a table will be out at church where you can sign up "in person", with the help of one of our Small Groups ministry team members.
There are small groups meeting different nights, in different towns... for women or men... for couples, singles or mixed... some even with childcare provisions! To find out more, look for the Ripple Effect banner on Sunday.

If you're already in a small group that will be studying the Ripple Effect material, no need to sign up - your leader will register your whole group.

If you're interested in finding out more about leading a new 6-week small group (training provided), please contact Jane Sumner, JaneESumner@aol.com, 408.356.5649.
