Child Baptism and Dedication
Sunday, May 9

On Sunday, May 9, 2010 (Mothers' Day), there will be an opportunity for parents to present their children for baptism or dedication. A church required time of instruction for those wishing to present a child on that date has been scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 26, in our offices at 1451 Grant Rd., Suite 102, Mountain View.  Register online or contact Judy Lovejoy, jlovejoy@mppc.org.

Castro School Book Drive
Sundays through April 22

In preparation for Compassion Weekend, we are collecting new and gently used books for Kindergarten through 5th grade to be passed out at the Castro Dia del Libro (Book Day) Festival at Castro Elementary School. A drop-off box will be available in the back of Fellowship Hall through April 22, 2010. Contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net, for more information.

Volunteer for Compassion Weekend

We are excited to announce five projects that will take place in the South Bay community during Compassion Weekend on Saturday and Sunday April 24-25. A few of the projects need sub-team leaders if you are interested in a one day or half-day leadership role.

AIDS Caregiver Kit Build
This project will provide a family friendly service opportunity to assemble 1,500 AIDS Caregiver Kits.
Need: Leaders are needed for the following sub-teams: registration, table managers, hospitality (to prepare beverages), and clean up after the build. To volunteer, please contact Barbara Recine, barb@inregister.us.

Castro Preschool Playground – Sub-Team Leaders Needed

Castro Preschool serves 68 children 3 to 5 years of age from low-income families. Volunteers will rebuild the Preschool garden into a combined gardening and outdoor play area to serve the developmental needs of the pre-school students.
Need: People with experience or interest in carpentry, gardening, and irrigation systems. For more information, please contact John Mitchell, jmitch1962@hotmail.com.

Castro Elementary Día del Libro Festival
Celebrate literacy with Castro Elementary students by facilitating festival booths, activities and games focused on literacy, books, and the joy of reading. Thes activities will be part of Castro’s Día del Libro (Book Day) Festival honoring children and their well-being in a Latin American carnival atmosphere. Castro is a public elementary school serving hundreds of Mountain View’s lowest income families from a largely Hispanic community. Children aged 7 and up are welcome to volunteer.
Need: People to help with the book drive prior to the festival. For more
information, please contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Community Pregnancy Center
The Community Pregnancy Center (CPC) is a Christ-centered beacon of hope, help, and healing for mothers of all ages in need of counseling and prenatal care. For Compassion Weekend, volunteers will paint the exterior of the Community Pregnancy Center (CPC) in Mountain View. These restoration efforts will provide a much needed upgrade to their facility, helping CPC to continue to provide their valuable services to our community. For more information, please contact Erik Davenport, 7davenport@sbcglobal.net.

Jeremiah’s Promise
This ministry serves young women who have aged out of the foster care system. Jeremiah’s Promise provides housing and counseling as well as academic, financial, and spiritual guidance. As a result, the young women have a family environment, stability, and support to persevere through a difficult transition in their lives and are able to connect with the local, Christian community. The Compassion Weekend team will create an atmosphere of beauty through interior projects and gardening projects. Please join us in praying for the planning of this project. To volunteer, please contact Tom Baenziger, tombdot@aol.com.

Note: General sign-ups are now open to participate in any of the church wide Compassion Weekend projects. Sign up at mppc.org.
