Family Ministries Summer Break
Sundays, August 15 and 22
This week, Shepherd's Village and Student Ministries begin a two-week break. Childcare will be available for children 3 months - 3 years. Children 4 years and older are invited to join their parents in the main service.
On August 29, Shepherd's Village and Student Ministries will kick off the new school year with new curriculum and a few new room assignments for some of the younger children. Signs will be posted and volunteers will be on hand to help you find the right rooms for children who are transitioning.
Volunteer in Shepherd’s Village!
Sign-Up after services on Sundays, August 15 and 22
We have opportunities to serve all age groups from nursery to fifth grade in the coming fall. Currently, a particular need is for volunteers to work with the younger children ages 3 months - four-years.
If you can't commit to serving every week, prayerfully consider offering yourself to substitute on occasion. Stop by the Shepherd’s Village table on Sunday to talk with staff and volunteers and pick up volunteering information or contact Maria Hansen-Kivijarvi, 650.575.3167, mhanki@mppc.org.

Family of God Volunteer Opportunities
September 24-26
Children's Ministries has opportunities to serve at the Family of God Camp in September. We are praying for 8 people to be Nursery/Toddler caregivers, 4 leaders, and 3 puppeteers to serve with the Pandas/Kangaroos, and 12 leaders to serve with the elementary aged kids. These individuals will be needed during each of the conference sessions. During meals and free time, volunteers are free to participate in any of the other activities available. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Chris Dorst, 650.323.8647, cdorst@mppc.org.
Through the month of August, Open Door Church Mountain View and First Presbyterian Church will be collecting school supplies for under resourced children. The agencies that will receive the supplies include Community Services Agency (CSA), Salvation Army, and Family Supportive Housing (FSH). The goal is to collect the school supplies during the summer so that they can be distributed to the children before school starts in September. If you would like to participate, please bring a fun, colorful binder for an elementary, middle, or high school student filled with the following supplies: • Lined paper • Pencil pouch with zipper filled with pens, pencils, erasers • Dividers • Glue stick OR simply donate any back-to-school supplies of your choice. If you have any questions, please contact Jennie Bader, jsbader@sbcglobal.net. MIWO and CityTeam Dinner Saturday, August 21, 3:00 p.m. 580 Charles St., San Jose Menlo International Welcome and Outreach (MIWO) will help prepare and serve dinner for the residents of CityTeam and enjoy fellowship afterward. CityTeam is a non-profit Christian-based organization serving the poor and homeless. Please join us to be a part of this event. Contact Stephen Vivien, MIWO@rc5.us. Join the Castro Bookshelf in Every Home Project! This October we will host the Bookshelf in Every Home project to promote reading among low-income English language learners at Castro Elementary. ODCMV members will help Castro families decorate bookshelves for new kindergartners. Then students will fill them with books and play games with volunteers while parents attend a class on helping their child learn to read. Contact Trina Weller, 650.960.8227, kweller@sbcglobal.net, to join the team to organize this project. |
