Making Ripples

Find a place to serve!  Now we're 2 weeks into our Ripple Effect curriculum - and as God is moving in our hearts, we believe He also wants to move through our lives to make a difference in for those around us!  If your heart has been stirred and you're seeking opportunities to serve, a few ideas can be found here: Ripple Effect Opportunities.

We'd love to hear from you!  Share your story!  Please let us know how God has been moving in your life and helping you to make ripples in our world. To share your story with us visit mppc.org/stories.

Suggest a service idea!  Do you know of needs around you - in your community or neighborhood - where we might serve and so live out Jesus' love? It could be to someone who is elderly or infirm, a single parent, or anyone with daunting needs where we might be a blessing.

Do you or members of your small group possess tangible gifts or abilities you'd like to use together to bless someone else?

If you either have a heart to serve in a certain way, or know of outstanding needs we might meet with blessing, please let us know - and we'll do our best to connect the needs with the gifts and heart. Contact Jane Sumner, JaneESumner@aol.com, 408.356.5649.

Ripple Effect Small Groups

We have people meeting all over the Peninsula and South Bay in Ripple Effect small groups - considering this powerful material and how God wants to work it through our lives, to give us more of His heart for His world. If you're interested in joining up with a group but haven't had the chance to yet, contact Jane Sumner, JaneESumner@aol.com, 408.356.5649.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Vacation Bible School
Monday-Friday, July 26-30, 2010, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon

Plans are being made for another great year of partnering with First Presbyterian Church in providing a fun week for children to learn about the boundless love of our wonderful God.  This year's theme will be:  "High Seas Expedition; Exploring the Mighty Love of God".

Mark your calendars and bring your kids!  Bring your neighbor's kids!  Come and participate in making this fun week for kids a reality!  Whether you prefer to work behind the scenes or directly with the kids, we invite you to consider how you might invest some of your time in making sure this "next generation" knows just how much God loves them.  For more details on how you can give of your skills and heart, contact Angelyn Knab, aknab@mppc.org

Adopt a Classroom at Castro Elementary

We are looking for individuals or small groups interested in supporting a Castro Elementary classroom through prayer and “TLC” during this school year. Six classrooms have been adopted by ODCMV members and other congregations this year, and two more remain. Although the greatest need is for people who can go into the classroom occasionally to interact with students, there are needs to be filled outside the classroom as well. Please contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net, 650.960.8227, for more information.

Planning for Compassion Weekend - April 25-26, 2010

Compassion Weekend: Project Leaders and Team Leaders Needed
Planning for Compassion Weekend (April 24-25, 2010) is underway and the momentum is building! We are excited to announce four projects that will take place in the South Bay community! A few of these projects need leaders or sub-team leaders to make them happen.

AIDS Caregiver Kit Build
This project will provide a family friendly service opportunity to assemble 1,000 AIDS Caregiver Kits.
Need: Leaders are needed for the following sub-teams: inventory, set up, registration, table managers, card table, quality control, packaging and shipping, refreshments, clean up, parking lot, and music and video. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Barbara Recine at barb@inregister.us.

Castro Preschool Playground
This preschool serves 68 children ages 3 to 5 years of age from low-income families. Volunteers will rebuild the Preschool garden into a combined gardening and outdoor play area to serve the developmental needs of the pre-school students. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Trina Weller at kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Castro Elementary Día del Libro Festival
This public elementary school serves hundreds of Mountain View’s lowest income families. The campus also serves as a community center for the low-income, largely Hispanic community that surrounds it. This family-friendly project will facilitate festival booths, activities, and games focused on literacy, books, and the joy of reading. Activities will include lively storytelling, songs, games, and other educational activities in a carnival atmosphere. For more information, please contact Trina Weller at kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Jeremiah’s Promise
This ministry serves young women who have aged out of the foster care system. Jeremiah’s Promise provides housing and counseling as well as academic, financial, and spiritual guidance. As a result, the young women have a family environment, stability, and support to persevere through a difficult transition in their lives and are able to connect with the local, Christian community. The Compassion Weekend team will create an atmosphere of beauty through interior projects and gardening projects. Please join us in praying for the planning of this project. For more information, please contact Tom Baenziger at tombdot@aol.com.

Note: General sign-ups to participate in any of the church wide Compassion Weekend projects will begin toward the end of March/early April at mppc.org.

Offer a Helping Hand!

The Helping Hands Team puts compassion into action by providing practical assistance to the Open Door Church Mountain View community, e.g., preparing meals, rides to medical appointments, etc.  As Scott Palmbush often says, "We do not have a bench or sidelines at Open Door Church Mountain View – everybody gets to play!", and this is a simple way to “get in the game” and make a difference in the lives of others within our community!  We utilize a web-based community - Lotsa Helping Hands - to communicate needs to those who have signed up to offer help as needed.  If you would like to be included in our on-line community to be alerted as needs arise, please contact Angelyn Knab, aknab@mppc.org.
