Holy Week Services in Mountain View

You are warmly invited to join us during Holy Week and Easter Sunday as we give thought to the experiences of Christ and relate them to our lives.

Maundy Thursday
April 1, 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall

Join us for a special remembrance of the the Last Supper of our Lord with his disciples, hosted by our own Scott Palmbush and Tim Boyer, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View!  This combined service has become a beloved tradition for both congregations and will feature a joint choir, a time for communion and an opportunity to anoint one another with oil, as we recall the example Jesus demonstrated as He taught his disciples to serve one another.  You won't want to miss the sweet blessing of this evening, so be sure to mark this on your calendar!

Good Friday
April 2, 12 noon in the Chapel

This contemplative mid-day service will be led by Tim Boyer of First Presbyterian Church and will offer a time to reflect on the great love of our God and His willingness to spare no expense in bridging the gap between death and life so that unbroken relationship with Him could be restored to us now and always.

Easter Sunrise ServiceSunday, April 4, 6:30 a.m. on the Patio Under the Cross

First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View extends a warm invitation to join them for an early morning celebration of the resurrection on Easter morning.  This casual outdoor service is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. on the patio under the cross near the Sanctuary.  Rain will move the service indoors.  Dress warm, bring a hot drink and ready your heart for a time of rejoicing.  A light breakfast will be served following the service.

Easter Sunday Services
April 4, 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall

Come join the celebration and bring your friends!  Prayerfully consider who in your life might be blessed by an invitation to join you for church on Easter Sunday.  Special music during the services and an Easter egg hunt for children following both services will make this a memorable time for all ages.

ODCMV Photo Directory!

Ever have trouble keeping names and faces straight?  The ODCMV Photo Directory is coming to save the day!  Of course a photo directory requires photos, so we're partnering with Olan Mills to arrange free portrait sessions from late May through mid-June for everyone who wishes to participate - and we hope all of you will!

In preparation for the portrait sessions, we're looking for volunteers who would be willing to help register people when they come to have their photos taken.  A training session for registering people is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at the ODCMV offices, 1451 Grant Rd., Suite 102, Mountain View.  If you can help with this important project, please contact Gerry Soderberg, aesgms@comcast.net, 650.968.8276, referencing the ODCMV Photo Directory.
For those who can't help with registration, please stay tuned for more on signing up for your free portrait session, coming up soon!

Castro School Book Drive
Sundays through April 22

In preparation for Compassion Weekend, we are collecting new and gently used books for Kindergarten through 5th grade to be passed out at the Castro Dia del Libro (Book Day) Festival at Castro Elementary School. A drop-off box will be available in the back of Fellowship Hall through April 22, 2010. Contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net, for more information.

Bless Someone with Flowers on Easter!

In celebration of our Lord’s resurrection and the new life His sacrifice made possible for us, we will be decorating our worship space with potted flower arrangements.  After the 10:30 a.m. service, these potted arrangements will be available on a first-come-first-served basis for anyone who would like to bless a person in need of cheer.  Do you know of a shut-in or perhaps someone in an assisted care facility or hospital?  Please consider delivering an arrangement on behalf of our church to brighten that person’s day.  Questions?  Contact Jane Liddle, jliddle@mppc.org.

Volunteer for Compassion Weekend

We are excited to announce five projects that will take place in the South Bay community during Compassion Weekend on Saturday and Sunday April 24-25. A few of the projects need sub-team leaders if you are interested in a one day or half-day leadership role.

AIDS Caregiver Kit Build
This project will provide a family friendly service opportunity to assemble 1,500 AIDS Caregiver Kits.
Need: Leaders are needed for the following sub-teams: registration, table managers, hospitality (to prepare beverages), and clean up after the build. To volunteer, please contact Barbara Recine, barb@inregister.us.

Castro Preschool Playground – Sub-Team Leaders Needed

Castro Preschool serves 68 children 3 to 5 years of age from low-income families. Volunteers will rebuild the Preschool garden into a combined gardening and outdoor play area to serve the developmental needs of the pre-school students.
Need: People with experience or interest in carpentry, gardening, and irrigation systems. For more information, please contact John Mitchell at jmitch1962@hotmail.com.

Castro Elementary Día del Libro Festival
Celebrate literacy with Castro Elementary students by facilitating festival booths,
activities and games focused on literacy, books, and the joy of reading. These
activities will be part of Castro’s Día del Libro (Book Day) Festival honoring
children and their well-being in a Latin American carnival atmosphere. Castro
is a public elementary school serving hundreds of Mountain View’s lowest income
families from a largely Hispanic community. Children aged 7 and up are welcome
to volunteer.
Need: People to help with the book drive prior to the festival. For more
information, please contact Trina Weller at kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Community Pregnancy Center
The Community Pregnancy Center (CPC) is a Christ-centered beacon of hope, help, and healing for mothers of all ages in need of counseling and prenatal care. For Compassion Weekend, volunteers will paint the exterior of the Community Pregnancy Center (CPC) in Mountain View. These restoration efforts will provide a much needed upgrade to their facility, helping CPC to continue to provide their valuable services to our community. For more information, please contact Erik Davenport at 7davenport@sbcglobal.net.

Jeremiah’s Promise
This ministry serves young women who have aged out of the foster care system. Jeremiah’s Promise provides housing and counseling as well as academic, financial, and spiritual guidance. As a result, the young women have a family environment, stability, and support to persevere through a difficult transition in their lives and are able to connect with the local, Christian community. The Compassion Weekend team will create an atmosphere of beauty through interior projects and gardening projects. Please join us in praying for the planning of this project. To volunteer, please contact Tom Baenziger, tombdot@aol.com.

Note: General sign-ups are now open to participate in any of the church wide Compassion Weekend projects. Sign up at mppc.org.
