Did You Know?

Extreme Poverty Awareness

This summer all MPPC campuses will be participating in a churchwide focus on Extreme Poverty by providing opportunities for you to increase your understanding of what life is like for half of the world's population - those living on less than $2 per day.  God is working through His people to make His justice, compassion, mercy and peace known throughout the world. Join with us this summer to learn more about how He is calling His church--this generation--to be "good news" in the fight to end extreme poverty completely.

Live58: The Film (Rated PG-13) | MORE INFO
Saturday, June 29, 7:00 p.m.

Based on God's call in Isaiah 58 to “loose the chains of injustice” and provide for the poor, this inspiring true story of the global Church in action puts a face on the problem of global poverty, and calls Christians to act on their faith.

Witness bravery and determined faith in a journey from the slums of Kenya to the streets of New York. Confront the brutality of extreme poverty and meet those who live out the True Fast of Isaiah 58, creating stunning new possibilities for the future.

Hungry for Change Experience - July 7-12 | REGISTER
and Hungry for Change Potluck - Friday, July 12

In the midst of our daily routines, it is difficult to imagine what those in developing countries experience on a daily basis. It is our hope that by participating in Hungry for Change you can experience, in a tangible and meaningful way, a small piece of what life is like in the poorest areas of the world. Multiple options for participation are available, including suggested options for child participation.  At the end of the week, on Friday night, participants are invited to come together for a time of sharing over a potluck meal.  Find more information and register at mppc.org.

Walk4Water (@Summer Family Fun Night) | REGISTER
Tuesday, July 16, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Walk4Water is a one-mile walk designed to simulate the experience of villagers in rural Africa. Beginning and ending at the church campus, we will walk to a water source, fill our buckets with water, and return. Stay after the walk to enjoy desserts and activities.

This is a great opportunity to invite friends and neighbors who don't go to church. Register at mppc.org to qualify for the Mission Department participation giving challenge! Watch mppc.org for more information.

Churches on the Corner Work Day
Saturday, June 22, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Drop by when you can!

First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View warmly invites all to join in on a time of fellowship while providing some TLC for the beautiful campus God has blessed us to share.  Projects may include: painting, window washing, garden trimming, sweeping, dusting and other cleaning and maintenance projects.  Additional rags, garden tools, brooms and etc., to be used for the day, are welcome!  For more information, stop by the FPC Connection Table (near the big metal cross) on Sunday, or email the FPC church office, fpcmv@sbcglobal.net.  Sign-ups will help us plan for supplies and lunch (but if you don't get a chance to sign up ahead of time, please come anyway!).

Safe@Home Work Day
Saturday, June 29, 9:00 a.m.-12 noon

Work in partnership with Rebuilding Together Peninsula to assist elderly, ill, and needy homeowners with house maintenance. Projects are designed to be fun for the whole family (all ages), and completed within 4-6 hours by a group of 8-12 volunteers, age 12+.

There is space on the registration form to tell us about children under 12, so we can arrange an age-appropriate project for them to participate in.

Registration deadline is the Tuesday before the project. More information is available at mppc.org.  Questions? Contact Bob Arrington, 650.619.4997.

Career Actions Ministry

Host Homes

Do you have a spare bedroom and bath you could offer for a few months to a Stanford Hospital patient and/or their family members?  The Host Home program is looking for families and individuals willing to minister to those who travel from out of state by offering local housing during Stanford treatments.  This is a chance to minister through practical means to families and/or individuals who are in need.  Contact Sue Passailaigue, suepass@juno.com.

Deacon Ministry: Connecting & Caring

Deacons are ordained officers of the church, who foster connecting and caring within the church community. Their passion is to help connect members of the community with each other and to ministry.  They also provide compassionate response to congregational needs not met by a member’s small group or fellowship group. They care for the community through in-person or over-the-phone prayer, visitation, and occasional help with practical needs (rides, meals).  Contact ODCMV Deacons, 650.330.7540, deacons@odcmv.org.

Men Pursuing Purity

Men Pursuing Purity is a healing ministry for single and married men who long for freedom from the darkness and shame that comes with sexual sin. We bring men to the cross, trusting the Lord to redeem hearts, minds, and souls. In him we find our true selves, loved, forgiven, and healed. In him we find grace and truth (John 1:14).

For all men who have tried repeatedly to leave sin behind, there is hope for real liberation! Men Pursuing Purity is led by men who have experienced healing from sexual addictions, and who minister from compassion, integrity, and total dependence on God.  Contact Craig Lauchner, 650.279.2895, craig_lauchner@yahoo.com.
