ODCMV in November:

Daylight Saving Time Ends
Sunday, November 6, 2:00 a.m. (or before you go to bed on Saturday night, if you don't want to stay up that late) ;)

On the first weekend in November, people far and wide will be enjoying the opportunity to sleep in an extra hour - without running late!  As the saying goes, "fall back, spring forward", so don't forget to turn those clocks back an hour on Saturday night, as we say goodbye to Daylight Saving Time and hello to Standard Time, so you can take full advantage of that extra hour in your day!

(If you're looking for something to do with that extra hour, check out this article for more on the history of the Daylight Saving Time tradition around the world.)

Student Ministries Thanksgiving Feasts
Middle School:  Tuesday, November 15, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Room 102
High School:  Wednesday, November 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m. (The Loud's Home)

Your kids will not want to miss this time of building community in their groups while enjoying a full Thanksgiving meal together with friends and leaders. This is a great opportunity for the kids to bring friends who may not attend church.  Contact Zack Aumiller, zaumiller@mppc.org.

Operation Christmas Child
Collection Dates: Sundays, November 13 & 20

By taking an ordinary shoe box, filling it with toys and other presents, you have a special gift for a child in need of joy and hope.  Personally pack a shoe box for a child aged 2-4 years, 5-9 years, or 10-14 years that will be distributed all over the world in areas of poverty, war, disease, and natural disaster.  Organized and promoted by the Samaritan Purse organization, a book about the Gospel will be supplied in each shoe box before distribution.

Operation Christmas Child is a great mission project that you can do with family, small groups, or individually.  Volunteers are needed to staff the Collections table on November 13 and 20. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer,  please contact June Darmanian, 650.960.3601, darmanian@comcast.net.

Fair Trade Holiday Gift Fair
Saturday, November 19, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 20, 12:00 noon-3:00 p.m.

Do you ever wonder if there is something you can do to help break the cycle of poverty in the developing world?

Come Shop - and Bring a Friend!

One way you can have an impact is through purchasing "fair trade" items from companies such as Trade as One, which sells beautiful, handmade items by women and men in developing countries.  Your purchases transform lives and communities in the developing world by enabling individuals to use their skills and resources to work their way out of poverty.

Our Holiday Gift Fair will showcase gifts, jewelry, bags, housewares, gifts for kids, coffee, chocolate and other fair trade foodstuffs - just in time for Christmas! This holiday season, let your gifts be part of the story of transformation!

Volunteer!

Help with marketing by hanging up posters on community bulletin boards in local businesses or passing out invitations in your neighborhood; sign up for a shift behind the cash register; lend your creative eye to setting up appealing merchandise displays; coordinate refreshments for our guests or assist with taking inventory and packing up at the end of the event. And while you're at it, get some holiday shopping done!

To learn more about our annual Fair Trade Holiday Gift Fair, or to volunteer your assistance in putting it on this year, please contact Shelli Krunic, skrunic26@gmail.com.

Vantage Point:  Hope for Haiti?
Sunday, November 20, 6:30 p.m., Fellowship Hall

Ten months after the earthquake, what is the Church doing in Haiti now?  Join us for coffee and dessert and join a conversation with representatives from World Vision and a "grass roots" church-based ministry about how we can bring God’s hope and take part in rebuilding Haiti in the wake of the unprecedented devastation wrought by the earthquake.

Bring your questions and hear from the experts!  MPPC Partner, Herode Guillomettre, a Haitian native who lives and ministers in Haiti, will share about what his church community is doing to rebuild Haiti.  And from the leadership ranks of World Vision, we'll hear from Senior Director, John Hasse, who coordinates relief efforts in Haiti.  Invite your friends and neighbors!
For more information, contact John Blaha, johnblaha@earthlink.net.

Register for Bible Explorers!
Program: January 8-June 3, 2012

A love and appreciation of God’s word is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children! The Bible can be a difficult book for children to read and understand. This exciting Bible learning program aims to help children grasp, at their own level of understanding, the importance of God’s word in their lives. Upon completion of the class each student will receive his/her very own Bible at a special graduation ceremony.

All 4th and 5th graders, who have not previously taken Bible Explorers, are encouraged to participate. Online registration will be available soon at odcmv.org.  Note that enrollment in Bible Explorers is limited and advanced registration is required.  Also note that Regular, on-time attendance is very important to ensure that your child gains the full benefit of the class.  For more information, contact Chris Nicholson, cnicholson@mppc.org.
