Castro Elementary School Spring Clean Up
Saturday, March 13, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon

The Castro Elementary School spring clean up is Saturday, March 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. As a “Community Partner” to Castro School, ODCMV attendees and friends have been invited to work side by side with Castro parents on the spring clean up day. The Castro campus includes a preschool and a public school serving kindergarten through fifth grade for the low-income, largely Hispanic community that surrounds it. Volunteers will clean up winter debris and prepare the gardens for spring lessons. Please contact Trina Weller at kweller@sbcglobal.net or 650-960-8227 if you plan to attend.

Repurpose old bicycles and benefit youth at New Door Ventures!
Donation Drive, Sunday, March 14

On March 14, ODCMV will be collecting bicycles for New Door Venture’s Pedal Revolution bicycle sales and repair shop in San Francisco . All your donations are fully tax-deductible, plus you get the satisfaction of supporting New Door’s training program for at-risk youth, recycling a bike, and helping your neighbors leave their cars at home. Bicycle donations will also be accepted at the Menlo Park campus on March 20-21.

Here are some guidelines:
  • Bikes should be in a good maintainable state. Please, no severe rust, damage, or disrepair.
  • Road bikes are what we love - any decent road bike, whether it is an older steel vintage type or a newer racing type. Our youth learn hard skills by refurbishing these bikes.
  • We cannot accept department store bikes (from Target or Walmart for example) such as Huffy, Pacific, and Mongoose brands, as they are often made with parts that cannot be replaced or repaired with the assurance of bike safety.
  • We welcome mountain bikes and hybrids that were originally valued at $500 or more, and are currently in good, maintainable condition as noted above.
  • Bike parts and tools are accepted as long as they are in decent working shape.
Thank you for helping New Door rebuild lives as we rebuild bikes!

This family-friendly project will facilitate festival booths, activities, and games focused on literacy, books, and the joy of reading. Activities will include lively storytelling, songs, games, and other educational activities in a carnival atmosphere. For more information, please contact Trina Weller, kweller@sbcglobal.net.

Jeremiah’s Promise
This ministry serves young women who have aged out of the foster care system. Jeremiah’s Promise provides housing and counseling as well as academic, financial, and spiritual guidance. The Compassion Weekend team will create an atmosphere of beauty through interior projects and gardening projects. Please join us in praying for the planning of this project. For more information, please contact Tom Baenziger, tombdot@aol.com.

Note: General sign-ups to participate in any of the church wide Compassion Weekend projects will begin toward the end of March/early April at mppc.org.

Help Job Seekers!

Want an easy way to help our job seekers?  Sign up for MPPC’s Career Actions Network!  Here's what one job seeker named Sundra had to say, “I can truly say this service is a blessing for me and a lot of others.  I forward all of your job leads to a distribution list of friends and family, who in turn share them with others who are job searching.  Praise God that several people secured interviews and a few have actually been hired.  By providing a service that is motivating, lives are being changed and spirits lifted.”  Contact Al Hulvey, ahulvey@CareerActions.org.

Welcome New Members!

Please join us in welcoming new MPPC/Open Door Church Members, Rita Chuang and Melinda Heppberger, who joined the church at the Membership@MPPC class on Saturday, March 6. For information on the next scheduled Membership@MPPC class, scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2010, see mppc.org/calendar/membershipmppc.
