Did You Know?

Technology and Shepherd's Village

Do you love technology?  Do you love to help people?  Would you welcome an opportunity to use your technology and people helping skills to enable ministry?  As many of you have likely noticed, Shepherd's Village has gone high-tech with child check-in procedures.  Just a few of the benefits this change enables are:
  • Timely and direct contact information updates to the FellowshipOne database, improving efficiency and effectiveness of communication
  • Instant access to attendance for each classroom, so we can be assured of accounting for everyone in the case of an emergency evacuation
As with any change, of course, some challenges have also presented themselves.  If you'd like to employ your technical and people skills in helping us improve the user experience of our new check-in procedures, we'd love to hear from you!  Training provided!  Contact Jean Ann Chernikoff, jchernikoff@mppc.org.

For more information about the what, why and how of our new check-in stations, look for the Shepherd’s Village newsletter at church on Sunday.

In October:

Dinners For Eight
various dates, times and locations

Looking for an opportunity to connect with people?  Dinners for Eight is a great place to start!  Eight (or so) people gather for a "pot luck" style dinner in a home, meet in a restaurant, or they may even go out together after church for Sunday lunch. The point is, no one does all the cooking, but all get to enjoy meeting others from our church community in a relaxed environment.  Contact Jane Sumner, 408.356.5649, JaneESumner@aol.com, to participate in a dinner near you!

The Jesus Dojo | REGISTER
Begins Sunday, October 14, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

"Dojo" is a Japanese word meaning "a place where you learn the way" - referring to a space set aside for training in some kind of discipline, under the instruction of a master teacher.  In the Jesus Dojo, Jesus is our Master teacher, and together we will seek to learn from Him how to live in His way.

Using the Lord's Prayer as our guide, we will gather on the 2nd Sunday of each month, October-April, for dinner and to learn from our Master teacher how to surrender our whole selves to the purpose for which we were created - to live each moment WITH the God who created us, and to walk in His way.  Won't you join us?

REGISTRATION:  $35/person covers dinner and materials for all 7 sessions.  Childcare available: $35/child covers childcare for all 7 sessions.  Contact Judy Lovejoy, jlovejoy@mppc.org.

Trunk-Or-Treat | Sign-Up To Help!
Sunday, October 28, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Church Parking Lot

The "Churches on the Corner" are partnering together again this year on a Halloween themed outreach event for our community!  We had a LOT of fun last year, so we can say with confidence, this is something you will not want to miss!

The plan is this: families from each church on our campus will park and decorate their cars in the church parking lot, creating a fun environment for kids who are invited from our community to come and "trick-or-treat" from trunk to trunk.  (Click here to check out some fun decorating ideas!) At this fun event, we will also provide opportunities for kids and their families to enjoy food, activities, and games on the lawn.

The vision behind this event is to build a sense of community and create an opportunity for our neighbors to check out our churches in a low key, fun environment.  Here are a few ways you can participate in bringing this vision into reality:
  • Come to enjoy the festivities and to offer a warm welcome to our visitors!
  • Invite your friends and neighbors!!!  (Invitation cards available at church.)
  • Sign up to decorate your car and pass out treats.
  • Help with food, games or an activity for the evening.
Sign up to decorate a car or to help with activities at church on Sunday or by filling out our very simple online form.  To learn about other ways you can participate in this joint outreach opportunity, please contact Zack Aumiller, zaumiller@mppc.org.

High School Halloween Mix

Fair Trade Gift Fair
November 17 & 18
Fellowship Hall

Do you ever wonder if there is something you can do to help break the cycle of poverty in the developing world? One way you can have an impact is through purchasing "fair trade" items from companies such as Trade as One, which sells beautiful, handmade items by women and men in developing countries.

Many volunteers are needed to make this event a reality:  set-up/tear-down, artfully arranging merchandise, cashiering, coordinating/providing refreshments, etc.  Contact Kathy Fisher, kathyfisher1106@sbcglobal.net.
